Michael Phelps gears up for the honor of carrying the U.S. flag this month as he will compete in his fifth Olympic Games set in Rio de Janeiro. Phelps is the first swimmer to be the flag bearer since Gary Hall in 1976. Phelps says, "I'm honored to be chosen, proud to represent the U.S., and humbled by the significance of carrying the flag and all it stands for." He is the most decorated Olympian of all time with 22 medals.
Michael Phelps came away with his 13th individual gold medal last night at the 200-meter individual medley. He became the first swimmer to win gold in the same event at four consecutive Olympics, but that wasn't the only record he broke. According to The New York Times, he also possesses the most individual gold medals EVER breaking a record dating back all the way to 152 B.C.

What if Michael Phelps was a woman? Would she be as celebrated? Would she be on the Wheaties Box? CNN writer, Mel Robbins posed that question to point out the sexism that subtly exists and always has. When a man wins we say good job, when a woman wins we say how did she do that? It's not overt but it's there. If Michelle Phelps existed we would probably be talking about her stint in rehab and we would wonder if she is a good mother to her kids if she's always in the pool.
