Michael Phelps Rio2016 Michael Phelps gears up for the honor of carrying the U.S. flag this month as he will compete in his fifth Olympic Games set in Rio de Janeiro. Phelps is the first swimmer to be the flag bearer since Gary Hall in 1976. Phelps says, "I'm honored to be chosen, proud to represent the U.S., and humbled by the significance of carrying the flag and all it stands for." He is the most decorated Olympian of all time with 22 medals. Michael Phelps came away with his 13th individual gold medal last night at the 200-meter individual medley. He became the first swimmer to win gold in the same event at four consecutive Olympics, but that wasn't the only record he broke.
