Rio Olympics 2016: Usain Bolt wins 200m gold, his eighth Olympic gold

Rio Olympics 2016: Usain Bolt wins 200m gold, his eighth Olympic gold Usain Bolt won the men's 200m to claim his second Rio 2016 gold, his eighth at an Olympics, and keep alive his hopes of an unprecedented 'treble treble'. The Jamaican ran 19. 78 seconds to come home ahead of Canada's Andre de Grasse and France's Christophe Lemaitre. Britain's Adam Gemili clocked the same time as Lemaitre, but was denied his first Olympic medal in a photo finish. Bolt, 29, has already won the 100m in Rio and will run in the 4x100m relay final on Friday (02: 35 BST, Saturday). Bolt is aiming to match his achievement of claiming gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay at both Beijing 2008 and London 2012. The Jamaican, who said in February he would retire after the 2017 World Championships, has won all eight Olympic finals in which he has appeared. "The fact I came here and executed what I wanted to is a brilliant feeling, " he told BBC Sport. "...

Please tell me this is not a dream’: Birthday girl's emotional reaction to getting a dog

Image
When Colette Francisco turned nine years old she received the puppy present she had been waiting almost two thirds of her life for. After mum Michelle picked her up from art camp on her birthday on July 31, Colette was told they were going to celebrate with cake and ice cream. Instead, the family turned up at the breeder's house where the birthday girl was told to sit down and close her eyes. Once the puppy was placed in her arms, an exasperated Colette could only say “wait a second” before bursting into floods of tears. With the waterworks well and truly open, she then says “please tell me this is not a dream” before naming the prized pooch Wasabi.  Download Michelle, from Town and Country, Missouri, USA, said: “Colette was just overcome with emotion.     Michelle from Town and Country Missouri “Everything from pure elation to shock. “She has been wanting a Shiba Inu since she was three years old and I think it was almost too much for her....

Trump Allies Plot Candidate Intervention After Disastrous 48 Hours

Image
Trump Allies Plot Candidate Intervention After Disastrous 48 Hours :   Key Republicans close to Donald Trump's orbit are plotting an intervention with the candidate after a disastrous 48 hours led some influential voices in the party to question whether Trump can stay at the top of the Republican ticket without catastrophic consequences for his campaign and the GOP at large. Republican National Committee head Reince Priebus, former Republican New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are among the Trump endorsers hoping to talk the real estate mogul into a dramatic reset of his campaign in the coming days, sources tell NBC News. The group of GOP heavyweights hopes to enlist the help of Trump's children - who comprise much of his innermost circle of influential advisers - to aid in the attempt to rescue his candidacy. Trump's family is considered to have by far the most influence over the candidate's thinking at what could be a...

Francis Cox - 2016

I was composing my picture of the Basilica at the Vatican, when I noticed three nuns walking towards me. I waited until they were in the frame and took multiple shots, to get the exact composition I was waiting for. MICK RYAN, JUDGE: This is a holiday snap, but a great one. The power of three, or the rule odds, is important in photography. Pythagorus called it the magic number. Look at a triangle and how that is more satisfying to the brain compared to a square. Apart from that, you can see these nuns, walking in unison, are satisfied after their visit to the Vatican.

Australia vs Sri Lanka

Image
Selectors left out all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and included Moises Henriques and Shaun Marsh in their squad named on Sunday for the one-day international series in Sri Lanka. Bowling all-rounder Henriques and batsman Marsh were among two changes from the 16-man squad that toured the West Indies last month.  Marsh, who returns to the squad following the birth of his first child, joins his brother Mitchell in the 15-man national ODI squad. Maxwell, batsman Travis Head and fast bowler Scott Boland, who all toured the West Indies, missed out on selection. “We know Glenn can be a match-winner for Australia but his current form doesn’t warrant selection,” chief selector Rod Marsh said. “He is averaging less than 10 runs in Australia’s last 10 one-day internationals, so the numbers speak for themselves. “We’ve asked Glenn to go away and focus on consistent performances for his state side Victoria and Australia A to earn his way back into the Australian side.” Henriques makes ...

Listen to her purr… how to train your cat

Image
I am a few days into training my cat and things aren’t going too well. She has been sick all over the carpet and her blanket. My attempts at making her perform simple tasks are met with bafflement and tail flicking. The custom-made toys I have crafted for her are summarily ignored. At one point, she starts chewing on the copy of the training book I’m using, looking me in the eye as if to say: “Just you try.” The book in question is The Trainable Cat by biologist John Bradshaw and Sarah Ellis, a feline behaviour specialist at the charity International Cat Care. The duo’s BBC Horizon programmes, The Secret Life of the Cat  and Cat Watch , aimed to demystify cat behaviour and their new book sets out detailed instructions on how to help cats deal with the sources of stress inherent to life as a pet: trips to the vet, visits from strangers and new and potentially upsetting situations such as moving house or the arrival of a baby. After dogs, cats are the UK’s second most ...
